Woodbury Homes for Sale
Woodbury, Minnesota is a suburb of St. Paul in Washington County. The city covers 36 square miles and was first settled in 1844. The area was originally prairie land mixed with oak groves with several ponds and lakes. Much of the area was converted to farmland by early settlers who came from the eastern states, with immigrants from Germany soon following. Farming was the primary occupation with commercial and residential development slow to happen. In 1955 housing development began as people began to leave the urban core for suburbs, and farmland has dwindled as housing developments, and shopping establishments have grown. The current estimated population is 68,400.
Woodbury maintains its beautiful landscape with some 45 parks that make up almost 3,000 acres. Many of the parks are connected by paved and unpaved trails. Sports lovers will appreciate the Bielenberg Sports Center which offers an ice arena, softball and baseball fields, sand volleyball courts, football fields and soccer fields. Golfers have a choice of Prestwick, which is a privately-owned club or Eagle Valley, which is open to the public. Woodbury also has many local events throughout the year, from parades to carnivals and live music events. Theater lovers will find high-quality performances at the Woodbury Community Theater which opened in 1972. The small theatre has grown, now offering two stages and attracting actors from far away.
Real estate options in Woodbury offers choices from townhomes to sprawling estates and everything in between. Single family ranch and cottage style homes are mixed with the split-level style in older neighborhoods. More contemporary modern homes and land for building are available in newer developments. Woodbury students are served by the South Washington County School District, Public School Woodbury, and the Stillwater Area Public Schools. This quiet city offers many entry-level jobs, has available health facilities, and has an easy commute to larger cities for employment. With the many great parks and recreational facilities, the available shopping and restaurants, this family-friendly city is clearly a must consider destination for homebuyers searching in the East Metro area.
