Hugo, Minnesota is located 21 miles north of downtown Saint Paul in Washington County. The city is on the border of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. With a focus on improving the infrastructure of older neighborhoods, the city continues to prepare for additional economic growth. As the residential areas grow, there has also been a growth in retail and commercial markets. With the expansion of Hugo’s industrial parks, new jobs continue to be added to the community. The current estimated population is 15,000.

Hugo’s abundant natural resources and the combination of rural and suburban landscapes offer many options for outdoor activity. Through careful planning, much of the land remains agricultural with many parks and lakes for those seeking outdoor experiences. Small lakes in Hugo have unspoiled shorelines that are perfect for leisurely walks by the waterside. The neighborhoods have been planned around natural open spaces or parks, connected by pedestrian trails providing access to parks and other recreational amenities. There are miles of trails in Hugo that connect to regional snowmobiling trails. There are also areas groomed for cross-country skiing. Other activities available in Hugo include golfing at the Oneka Ridge Golf Course, and two private shooting ranges and hunt clubs. Hugo also offers passive parks that are great for connecting with nature and two parks that offer tennis courts.

Hugo real estate options include older cottages and modern contemporary homes and townhouses in newer neighborhoods. The older neighborhoods have mature trees and updated homes, and the newer neighborhoods have been carefully planned to maintain the character of Hugo. Students in the area are served by the Mahtomedi Public School District, the Stillwater Area Public Schools, and the White Bear Lake School District.
