Bayport, Minnesota is located in Washington County, about a mile south of Stillwater. Located along the St. Croix River, Bayport began as several communities along the St. Croix River. In 1873, the railroad combined the communities into South Stillwater, and it was incorporated in 1881 as a village. However, many people found it confusing because of nearby Stillwater, so the village changed its name to Bayport in 1922. The lumber industry was the primary business in early Bayport, continuing to grow with the city’s rail lines allowing the shipment of lumber. The current estimated population is 3,426.
